Education, not veterinary care

Health Information Cards, class handouts, faculty articles, and other health pages on berneru.org are general information about Bernese Mountain Dogs. They were written to teach owners what topics the conference covered. They are not veterinary medical advice, and they are not a diagnosis, a prognosis, or a treatment plan for any particular dog.

A veterinarian who has examined your dog is the right person to interpret symptoms, choose tests, and prescribe care. If a dog is in distress — for example trouble breathing, a swollen abdomen, collapse, uncontrolled bleeding, or a suspected blockage — contact a veterinarian or an emergency clinic immediately. Do not wait on a webpage.

No veterinarian-client relationship

Reading this site, emailing the conference organizers, or attending a class does not create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship. Faculty members speak from their own expertise. Their comments on a given year describe that presentation. They are not an instruction to medicate, breed, or change the care of a dog without professional guidance.

Archive

Many pages describe a conference that has already been held. Schedules, fees, hotels, and health notes can be out of date. Breed-health knowledge changes. Check the date on the page, and confirm anything important with a current veterinary source or with the organizers.
