The 19th Berner University was scheduled for April 3–6, 2023, at the California Exposition and State Fair grounds (Cal Expo) in Sacramento, California, as part of that year's Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America National Specialty. Like other years, it offered seminars and workshops for Berner owners, breeders and handlers on health, breeding, conformation, stewardship and dog sports, taught by veterinarians, researchers, trainers and experienced club members.
That year the program ran as a four-day independent study: educational posters and flyers were displayed around the show grounds, and participants answered a question sheet as they found them. Completed sheets with a perfect score went into a prize drawing announced at the awards banquet.
